Even though Lowensaal is more of a basement-type bar, it has hosted many popular artists, like Thorn Yorke. Principally, the concert hall will have local bands play just about every day of the week. Open mic nights on Saturday allow local groups who are just starting out or just playing for fun to be heard, giving Lowensaal a break from the scheduled shows.
Lowensaal was originally known as The Facsimile, but Warren Hilgendorf purchased the club from Stan Bierlein in 1995 and changed the name. The owner used the bar he enjoyed most when he grew up in Denver as the inspiration for the design of the bar he runs now. Lowensaal has now evolved into the most popular bar around town to listen to concerts and have a drink.
