Started by Ernst von Possart, the theater was implicit the Prinzregentenstrasse as a celebration corridor for the musical dramas of Richard Wagner close to a range where a comparative venture of King Ludwig II had bombed a few decades prior. Named after Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria the building was planned by Max Littmann and opened 21 August 1901 with a generation of "Pass on Meistersinger von Nürnberg" by Richard Wagner. Like the Bayreuth theater, the hall was intended to Wagner's particulars, however an amphitheater has supplanted the loges.
